FAQ
At what is the earliest age should you correct your child's sleep?
If your child is under 16 weeks of age and not sleeping well, this is normal. I often educate parents about normal sleep habits for children, including newborns and how to avoid problems as the baby gets older. You should never sleep train a baby under 16 weeks.
Generally, the earliest you can do something is after 16 weeks. A baby that sleeps poorly and wakes frequenly and is very collicky is linked to increased risk of maternal postpartum depression and anxiety for some mothers. For mothers facing increased risk of depression and anxiety due to hormonal changes and exhaustion, I can help guide you on options.
Fortunately, due to the human brain's plasticity, we can always learn new things, children included! You can address your child's sleep issues at any age after 16 weeks. Though starting earlier makes the process easier and makes transition like moving from the cot to a big bed easier if you have good sleep habits established.
How do I engage your services?
Depending where in the world you are located, you can do skype, phone or home or at my office on Malacca Street (right off of Raffles Place MRT) consultations. Skype is the easiest and fastest way to get a consultation. Because I don't need to see the child, skype allows me to help more families in a timely manner. This also allows me to help parents in other countries outside of Singapore. I have clients in Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, India, China and the United States.
What if I don't have skype?
Skype is a free lite weight application. You can download and get it up and running. If that doesn't appeal to you, we can do a phone consultation or a home consultation (home only for those in Singapore).
How long does a consultation take?
Initial consultation take about 90 minutes. After your 1st consultations, coaching or support can be arranged by purchasing time on an hourly basis. Generally clients find that they need only 1 session.
The first consultation involves sleep education and evaluation of problems and discussion of your options as well as an action plan if appropriate. If clients don't use the entire 90 minutes, that time is "banked" and available for skype support for the next 6 months. This allows families time to take in information, make decision and get support implementing their action plans.
What happens during a consultation?
I will assess you and your child's interactions around sleep, get a history of the child's sleep pattern, discuss with you any concerns you and generally get an understanding of the child's sleep patterns in a 24 hour period. After I get the information I'm usually able to assess what is causing the problems.
Education and training on how sleep works is also critical so that you can understand your sleep options. Next I discuss with you your options for correcting the sleep issues. Sometimes parents need time deciding what to do and they can take some time and get back to me at a later date or other times parents can decide on the moment. Once parents know how they want to correct the sleep issues, I'll provide an action plan outlining what we discussed for sleep correction. In general this takes about 1 hour per child.
What is included in a consultation?
The initial consultation is about 90 minutes long and includes your consultation with with me, a Master level Trained Mental Health Counselor (USA) then an action plan and a 1-10 minute skype/phone follow up call to be used in 30 days from initial consultation to clarify any questions on the action plan or the implementation of it.
What happens if I don't use up all of my minutes that I purchased?
Your left over time is banked and can be used within 6 months from original purchase. Your 10 minute follow up call is good for only 30 days.
What if I want or need more time with you?
You can always purchase another 60 minutes of consultation for my office, home, skype or phone.
What if I want you to come to my home?
The home option is open to Singapore residents. An initial home consulation is 90 minutes. I also charge for roundtrip taxi fare based on a way receipt.
What are your fees?
How do I make payments?
I have several options. For people in Singapore you can make payment via cash (in home), or bank transfer to my SCB account. You can also do paypal or credit card. Bank transfer and paypal must be completed prior to appointment.
For those outside of Singapore, you can pay with credit card or your paypal Account.
Please contact me if you have any questions on making a payment or which service to purchase. All payments are non-refundable.
