If you are really feeling overwhelmed and not sure you can make it through another sleepless night, or afraid you may shake or hurt your child out of frustration, take these steps
Place the baby in the crib or bassinet and walk out of the room immediately, even if child is crying. It is better to leave the child crying than risk shaking them out of fustration.
You need to compose yourself and take deep breaths in another room, away from the child. Stay there until you feel back in control.
Call a trusted family member or friend and talk to them about anything.

There is nothing to be ashamed if you are feeling overwhelmed. The joy of a new baby can be tempered by months of sleepless nights. The important thing is to take a few minutes break from the baby, to recompose yourself so that you do not do something you may regret.
